German plantmaker SMS Siemag has announced that the 400-ton converter at ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe AG's Duisburg-Bruckhausen Works produced the first heat in September this year, after modernization by SMS Siemag.

The internal volume of the converter has been increased by 24 percent. The additional volumetric capacity enables more environmentally friendly process control and a more efficient energy recovery.

SMS Siemag also stated that it will supply a second converter to the Duisburg-Bruckhausen site in 2014.
