Andrew Price has been appointed as a non-executive director of troubled paper company Paperlinx.

Price earlier this year tried to unseat Harry Boon as chairman of Paperlinx, which has been the subject of a far-reaching strategic review that resulted in the sale of several of its international subsidiaries.

Commenting on the appointment, Boon said: "In the period since the extraordinary general meeting in March, Andrew and I have had discussions about his potential contribution to returning the business to profitability. Following the recent completion of the strategic review, and our announcements of the sale of assets and the repayment and restructuring of some debt, the time is now right for Andrew to join the Board in the next phase of implementing the ongoing restructure program.

"Andrew has 30 years' experience in the paper, print and supply chain fulfilment industries. He established Stream Solutions which provided the Australian print industry with an internet-based order fulfilment capability to enhance supply chain efficiencies, and brings the perspective of a print buyer who understands the changing demands of the paper industry, " Boon said.

Andrew Price commented: "Having spent recent weeks in Europe reviewing several of the key operations of the company, I am pleased to be joining the board on 1 September. I look forward to making a significant contribution to the current restructuring of the scaled-down business which should lead to a return to profitability through lower costs, more efficient order to fulfilment processes and a diversified product range."

During his campaign for a board seat, Price told shareholders that  Boon had been an integral board member during a time Paperlinx had performed poorly and management had made excuses "year after year".

Since the March meeting, Paperlinx has completed the strategic review of its operations and its chief executive, Toby Marchant, has left the company.
